Ordained to the Anglican priesthood in 1961, the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town, South Africa, is a preacher, teacher, activist and humanitarian. He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his role in leading nonviolent opposition to the apartheid system in his homeland, and he continues to be a voice of hope and healing. Today, Desmond Tutu works for justice on a spectrum of human rights issues, including poverty and racism.

He inspires us with his profound spirituality and concrete action to defend and promote human dignity and rights—as well as his work in spreading faith in human goodness and hope for a peaceful future.

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
- Archbishop Desmond Tutu
